The Ultimate Guide to Elevating Your Home Design with Wovenpanel™
At Archant, we love to see big ideas on paper turn into fully realised, inspiring spaces. From kitchens to living areas, and home offices, Wovenpanel™ has been used to do just that. This unique wire mesh product is so simple, that it makes a huge impact without dominating the area. It can be applied in just a small, featured part of a design, or on a larger scale.
We know this decorative surface may be new for many of our clients. In fact, we talk to our New Zealand clients all the time who ask, “How can Wovenpanel™ be used in my project?” We’re happy to walk you through some of the most impressive ways we’ve seen it applied in residential homes. In just the last year, we’ve been involved with dozens of designs that leveraged the rich benefits of architectural mesh.
And while it is a fully customisable product, it doesn’t have to come at a prohibitive cost. Many of the most stunning installs were crafted in a budget-friendly way. By the end of this article, we trust you’ll have a much better understanding of the amazing ways Wovenpanel™ can separate your project design from the masses. Get ready to be inspired!

1) Wovenpanel™ as a Stylish Space Divider
The trendy open floor plan has long been a sought-after way to layout a home. The idea is to create flow from one room to the next. In doing so, the space doesn’t feel so closed off. It also makes better use of natural light. Even smaller rooms end up feeling larger with more potential for a variety of uses. While all of this is certainly advantageous, how does one create a dedicated area without walls that isolate it from the rest of the home?
Wovenpanel™ is a beautiful and smart way to make separate areas in an open layout. If you choose a mesh pattern with wider spacing, the light can shine through quite well. For those considering a kitchen redesign, this is a powerful option to achieve the functional look you’re after without putting up solid walls.
More so than just a kitchen element, the wire mesh dividers can separate living areas, stairwells, and so much more. There’s virtually no limit to what can be achieved. It’s that type of exciting potential that’s made Wovenpanel™ a favourite amongst design experts in New Zealand, and around the world.
2) Upscale Your Cabinets with Wovenpanel™
If you want to hide the contents of your cabinetry, solid doors are effective. Yet, for many kitchens, a different approach is desired. With a simple application of Wovenpanel™ on the front of the cabinets, you can add a new level of design sophistication. Yes, with a splash of texture, and the shimmering mesh reflecting artificial light, the once static aspect of the cabinetry comes alive.
Spaces that may be short on contrast also benefit from the warm quality of Wovenpanel™ which comes in a variety of finishes such as brushed brass, dark oxide, bronze, stainless steel, and black copper. Whether you’re looking to add a finishing touch to a modern space, or a more charming country vibe, there is a style to fit every aesthetic.
Another great aspect of this decorative mesh is that it allows air to pass through. For food pantries and areas that require ventilation, it’s an ideal solution. We’ve even seen it used in home offices to keep computer servers, and hard drives safe, but largely out of sight. With adequate airflow, this sensitive technology won’t overheat. As you can see, it’s not only stylish but offers real functional advantages as well.

3) Dressing Up Accessories with Wovenpanel™
While the above-mentioned ideas are some of the more commonly used applications of Wovenpanel™, there’s so much more you can do with it. Some of the most stylish planter boxes and light fixtures we’ve seen were created with this wire mesh. Although this is a newer process, it’s gaining big traction in the design world. The mesh is flexible enough to mould it in all kinds of shapes.
As an example, check out this incredibly unique chandelier. Using the double wire flat weave and open fill of the Bexley Wovenpanel™ design, the fixture boasts luxury. The rigid quality of woven wire mesh provides ample strength. This light fixture is impressive not only in appearance, but it’s grand size. It measures approximately 1.83 meters by 1.83 meters wide and weighs about 77 kilograms.

Cost of Wovenpanel™
Five main factors will affect the price of Wovenpanel™.
Mesh Size
Complexity of Weave Pattern
Project Size
Framing Options
Wrapped Edges
Let’s take a closer look at each of these considerations and how they apply to your project.

Mesh Size Considerations
When the mesh design is more open, it’s generally lower in cost. This of course is due to less raw material to create the sheet of Wovenpanel™.
A few great examples of this are Staten which features a thin, three-wire, flat and rounded weave with a medium fill. Bromley is another standout, with its open fill creating a minimal and uniform aesthetic in any interior space.
Styles with finer mesh patterns require more material and thereby increase the cost. These are more opaque and have a heavier quality to them, such as the Ashley option. With its thin rounded weave and full fill, the Ashley allows for zero visibility through the panel.
Weave Pattern Complexities
When deciding on your Wovenpanel™ style, be sure to consider the weave pattern. The less intricate it is, the lower the price. If it’s ornate and detailed, the manufacturing process is more intensive and is priced accordingly.
The Clement style is an excellent example of this sophistication. Featuring a thin double wire, flat weave with a medium fill, in dual-tone, it combines stainless steel and brass in an organic rounded look.
As you look through our collection of wire mesh, you’ll be able to choose from a large variety of patterns ranging from simple to complex.
Raw Material Cost of Wovenpanel™
When you’re designing your space, it’s helpful to know the sheet sizes of Wovenpanel™. We typically offer rather large sheets sized at 2.4 x 1 metre. If you can optimise your plan to work with these dimensions, you’ll decrease waste from the overall panels purchased.
This will also save you from unnecessary time and labour with the fabrication process. We recommend working with your designer here to maximise your resources. If you’re not sure how much you’ll need, we are happy to analyse your plans and offer a quote.

Framing and Edge Wrapping of Wovenpanel™
Depending on how you’re using architectural wire mesh, you may need structural support for it. This can be a steel frame, or something made of timber to help hold it in place securely.
And while this is more common in very large applications such as a room divider, we wanted to give you a complete guide to all things that could affect the price. For most decorative applications, installers can fit the mesh to existing structures without steel framing.
Our Wovenpanel™ panels are shipped as flat, crimped sheets, but as noted above, many styles allow for flexibility. With these options, it’s possible to curve and wrap the material around the lower bench of a rounded centre island. This involves more welding, which adds cost, but will yield a unique and gorgeous finished look.
