A Guide to Wovenpanel™ Cost
A Guide to Wovenpanel™ Cost
By now, you’ve likely heard about the amazing ways in which you can enhance your design with Wovenpanel™. If, however, you’re just learning about it for the first time, we recommend starting here and then coming back to this article. In technical terms, Wovenpanel™ is decorative wire mesh crafted with quality materials such as steel, brass, and copper. In practice, however, this unique element is taking the design world by storm.
We know from experience that the success of any project is largely based on the original designer’s vision. Let’s be real though, the cost of materials and fabrication is of equal if not greater importance. And while Wovenpanel™ does indeed look luxurious, it doesn’t have to break your budget. There are many effective ways to reduce the cost and still think big with outstanding design.
Mesh Size
The more open the mesh design is, the less expensive it is. This is simply due to less material being used. A good example of this would be Staten which features a thin, three-wire, flat and rounded weave with a medium fill. Another great choice is Bromley with its open fill creating a minimal and uniform aesthetic in any interior space. These options can make a space feel more expansive as they let light pass through.

Alternatively, the finer mesh patterns require more material thereby increasing the cost. Some of these can be opaque and have a heavier quality to them, like the Ashley option. With a thin rounded weave and a full fill, the Ashley allows for zero visibility through the panel. These tighter mesh patterns often lend themselves to a more modern design but are not limited as such.

Simple vs Complex Weaves
Another consideration here is the weave pattern. The less intricate it is, the lower the price. Crafting a detailed weave is much more involved and is therefore priced accordingly. Take the Clement style for an example of design sophistication. It features a thin double wire, flat weave with a medium fill, in dual-tone. By combining stainless steel and brass the intertwined panel has an organic rounded look, ideal for internal spaces with more curves and natural shapes.

Optimise Your Sheets
Be mindful of the sheet sizes with Wovenpanel™. We typically offer rather large sheets sized at 2.4 x 1 metre. If you can design around these dimensions, you’ll optimize the overall sheet usage. If you are only using two sheets as opposed to four, you’ll cut your cost of raw materials in half. Reducing waste will also save you from unnecessary time and labour with the fabrication process. We recommend working with your designer here to maximise your resources.
Framing Options
If you need structural support for your Wovenpanel™ design, you’ll want to have a steel frame to hold it in place securely. This is more common in very large applications such as a room divider. We’ve seen this used beautifully in some commercial spaces. The Frost Tower in San Antonio, Texas is a dramatic example of this. For other, purely decorative options, fabricators can fit the Wovenpanel™ to existing structures (cabinets, etc) without relying on steel framing. This is much more cost-effective both in terms of materials used and labour.

Wrapped Edges
Wovenpanel™ sheets come as flat, crimped panels, but many styles do have some flexibility. For these options, it’s possible to curve and wrap the material around objects. Some examples include overhead round lighting or wrapping the lower bench of a rounded centre island. These types of creative applications of Wovenpanel™ are indeed unique and gorgeous but can cost more due to the welding process. If you love this kind of look, it may be worth the price though, especially if it’s the centre point of a kitchen.
Accessible Bespoke Design
These unique products are custom made for your job. This can certainly add a touch of sophistication to any space. In fairness, it’s not usually an essential part of a design. Still, we believe that using Wovenpanel™ in creative ways can make it accessible in most spaces. If you love the look but want to use it sparingly, it’s possible to do so. Highlighting specific parts of a room with small touches of Wovenpanel™ can add real visual impact without becoming cost-prohibitive.
Is it Worth It?
In a recent article on Houzz, Sydney, NSW Interior Designer Lynne Bradley offered this thoughtful perspective. “A good interior designer will resolve the functionality of a space and address scale, curate a desirable aesthetic, inject soul and tell a story for the inhabitants as well as affecting productivity. Good interior design evokes happiness and soothes the soul. It can inspire confidence, empathy, pride, creativity, security and energy.” We tend to agree with this sentiment and have found Wovenpanel™ to be quite effective at providing these desired design elements. While we’d like to offer an alternative to compare it against, there’s not much in the way of similar design elements. This rare quality is what makes Wovenpanel™ a noteworthy part of any design.
