5 Creative Ways to Use Wovenpanel™ and Porcelain as Decorative Surfaces
Porcelain is most known for its use as a benchtop surface. Yet Archant’s large format porcelain sheets are being widely embraced by designers around New Zealand. In both commercial and residential spaces, there’s virtually no limit to what can be done with this impressive material. In this piece, we’ll look at just some of the creative ways porcelain is being used to add visual impact.
Yet, an article on decorative surfaces wouldn’t be complete without a review of the amazing ways Wovenpanel™ is being used. We’re not just talking about small features in residential homes, but large-scale commercial projects too. If you’re not familiar with Wovenpanel™, it’s a gorgeous architectural mesh that’s making big waves in the design world.
Let’s start with some of the most unique ways we’ve seen porcelain used recently.

1) Beautiful Low Maintenance Porcelain Floors
If you’ve ever painstakingly cleaned the tiny spaces of grout between hundreds of small tiles, you’ll be thrilled with this option. Our large format porcelain sheets cover a wide area. Depending on the room size, you can complete the whole floor with a limited number of slabs and very little grout.
In doing so, maintenance is a cinch. It also makes the entire space feel more expansive. With its non-porous surface, porcelain floors are ideal in kitchens, bathrooms or any place water is present.

2) Stunning Porcelain Walls
With patterns ingrained right onto the porcelain surface, it’s possible to mimic the look of nearly any material. At Archant, we have five different collections: Marble, Colour, Cement, Stone, and Metal. With over 22 colours to choose from and a large variety of finishes, there’s no shortage of options.
Porcelain also makes it possible to continue patterns seamlessly across a large area thanks to our unique A&B slabs that match the veins of the design perfectly. Whether you want to create a classic design or add a high level of sophistication to a residential or commercial space, porcelain walls are a game-changer.

3) Wovenpanel™ in Commercial Spaces
Interior designers love Wovenpanel™ for its unique ability to breathe new life into a design. Some choose to feature it in intricate details, while others prefer large-scale applications. Here’s a snapshot of several incredible projects where Wovenpanel™ transformed the place of business.
The Bodega Garzon Winery is perhaps one of the more dramatic displays of Wovenpanel’s design potential. Using Loxford in brushed brass, the thin rounded weave and open fill create stunning space dividers. With a square mesh pattern and wide spacing, the light passes through, creating maximum visibility.

The Loxford style of Wovenpanel™ was also used in the surface cladding at the Sushisamba restaurant. The clever use of interior illumination highlights each panel, infusing the space with warm inviting light.

These decorative features not only look great but can serve a functional purpose as well. In the Lincoln Square Suites, Clement Wovenpanel™ was used to create a distinct separation of the space. The large mesh patterns retain the feeling of openness while adding visual texture and a dynamic circular aesthetic.

4) Walls of Wovenpanel™
Frost Tower is an iconic high-rise office building in San Antonio, Texas. The expansive ground-level lobby feature walls creatively adorned with Archant architectural woven wire mesh.
Created with Clement Wovenpanelᵀᴹ, the mesh combines stainless steel and brass to introduce a colourful, luxurious appearance. With depth and movement from the contrasting wires, the combined balance of silver and gold tones brings an element of dramatic elegance to the space. Downlighting and exterior wall wash lighting add a bright and shimmering characteristic to the panels.

5) Wovenpanel™ in Cabinetry
You can use architectural mesh sparingly and still create large splashes of style. It’s an ideal solution to highlight the important design features in a space. Cabinetry, for example, is a smart place to apply Wovenpanel™. Not only does it add visual appeal, but the open style of mesh allows for ventilation. This is particularly useful with food storage areas and pantries where airflow is helpful.

In the gorgeous kitchen project featured by Katie Scott of Sticks+Stones Design, the warmth of the wire mesh takes the space to the next level. The subtle use of texture introduces necessary contrast to the surrounding sleek elements. This is especially helpful when working with a monochromatic colour palette. When viewed together, a sense of harmony is evident throughout.
