- From opaque sheets to transparent styles, we have scores of unique patterns available and extensive customisation options. The brilliance of Wovenpanel® is enhanced by the creative ways you choose to use it.
- With nearly unlimited style potential, architectural wire mesh can be designed to fit the desired style of your next project. This flexibility coupled with the high quality of the mesh makes it an ideal solution for architecture and interior design.
In this article, we’ll talk about several useful types of wire mesh opacities and crimp styles to achieve the design flow you envision. Keep reading to discover the right mesh for your next interior project.

Choosing the Opacity
The density of each pattern offers the ability to control visibility. Density is a combination of several details including wire spacing, wire diameter, and opening size. These all help in comparing how easily light, or air, will pass through the screen. You can have a larger percentage of open area with wires that are not overly crimped or a denser sheet allowing very little to pass through. And while there are so many possible looks to explore, each panel is created from the highest quality materials.
Here are several visual examples of different Wovenpanel® opacities:

Opaque:
The Ashley Wovenpanel® is an opaque pattern allowing zero visibility through the panel for ultimate privacy. The dual tone of the Ashley creates shimmering light reflections off the different coloured finishes of the panel and makes a striking statement in any interior space.
Small Fill:
A thin simple flat weave with tight fill, the Chadwell Wovenpanel® is delicate and intricate. When viewed from the side the Chadwell appears to be an opaque panel but when viewed straight on, the transparency of the panel is evident.Top of FormBottom of Form
Medium Fill:
A wide flat weave with a medium fill, Crofton allows some visibility through the panel. It’s created from strong and durable 6mm wire, ideal for staircase sides or room dividers. The Crofton fits into the architecture of any space and adds expressive character with timeless elegance.
Open Fill:
Allowing bountiful light and air to pass through, Bexley creates a stylish and prestigious atmosphere due to high-quality material and intricate weave. A thin double-wire flat weave with an open fill, Bexley has the right balance of spacing and wire diameter to create a subtle enhancement to any interior space.
All these styles come in a variety of colours and finishes for the ultimate design flexibility. From intricate design highlights to large-scale applications these sheets can be used widely throughout your designs. The image below of the stair rail is an excellent example of an "open fill".

Which Crimp Style is Right for Your Project?
Crimping wire mesh is an essential part of infusing it with style and moulding it into a world-class decorative surface. There are many styles of crimping available with the most common being, Plain, Lock, Intercrimp, Flat Top, Triple Shoot, Rigid Cable, Helix, and Twill. And while these 8 styles are a common starting point, they can be further customised to create additional designs, textures, and opacity.

The main types of crimping include:
- Plain – Known for its simple zigzag style.
- Lock – Features straight sections of woven wire connected by a well-defined bump where the wire intersects.
- Flat Top - a smooth plane where all the wire surfaces are flush with one another to give a flat appearance.
- Intercrimp – like the plain crimp except the wire intersections occur only at every intersection.
- Triple Shute - long sections of straight wire connected by groupings of three plain crimp pockets of woven wire.
- Rigid Cable - clusters of 2, 3, or 4 wires spaced tightly together with no gaps between adjacent wires.
- Helix - smooth lines created by the spiral-shaped wires give this mesh a soft and tranquil look and feel.
- Twill - allows for a tighter mesh-to-diameter ratio which reduces the need to form the wire beyond its physical limitations.
As you can see, there’s no shortage of ways to really hone in on the look you’re after, and what kind of aesthetic you’d like to create. If you’d like an even deeper look at how Wovenpanel® is made, you may enjoy this article as well.
