How Much Should You Be Spending on a Bathroom Vanity? (Pricing Comparison)

How Much Should You Be Spending on a Bathroom Vanity? (Pricing Comparison)

When it comes to redesigning a bathroom, there are a seemingly endless array of vanities to consider. From the most basic budget-friendly models to high-end designer options, there’s no shortage of available products on the market today. And while the ability to shop comparatively is a position of power, it can be difficult to narrow down your top choices.

Our team at Archant is involved with hundreds of bathroom renovations each year in New Zealand. We’ve talked with designers, joiners, and homeowners about what makes a quality vanity top, and the issues that need to be addressed. To truly upscale a bathroom, the cost can vary dramatically. We have found one consistent truth; The longevity of the vanity along with the look and feel typically goes hand in hand with the price.

In this article, we’ll detail the price range you can expect to find when shopping for a bathroom vanity. Whether you’re looking for a generic big box solution, or something handcrafted, it helps to have an idea of the possibilities. Of course, when it comes to pricing, the numbers can prove higher or lower depending on a few factors.

As such, we’ve laid out the options ranging from budget-friendly to mid-range, and high-end. By the end, we believe you’ll have a solid idea of how to proceed with your bathroom renovation.

Budget Friendly Bathroom Vanities (Approximate $200 - $1000)

If you’re looking for a quick way to update a bathroom, but don’t want to invest in a long-term solution, there are some fantastic options to ponder. Perhaps this is for a seldom-used second bathroom, rental property or bach. With these projects, you often want something that looks good but is on the lower end of the price range.

At home improvement stores, you can find vanities that start at a few hundred dollars. In a low-traffic bathroom, these can work well. Be aware that the price doesn’t reflect installation, so you’ll have to factor in additional labour costs unless you’re doing it yourself.

You can shop online for these but be sure to study the product specifications for the materials used. They may look great in the photos, only to arrive in flimsy condition. Solid materials like timber and ceramic will always hold up better than compressed particle boards and the like.

Also, you’ll want to check how the item will arrive. Is it already built, or will you need to assemble the components? If it’s the latter, you may require special tools and expertise to set it up properly.

Mid-Range Bathroom Vanities (Approximate $1000 - $3000)

For bathroom projects that require a more durable solution, you may find a mid-range vanity to be the right balance of cost-effectiveness and style. These units are typically sold by suppliers who specialise in bathroom products. Most of the components can be customised including the handles, the tap, and even the surface material.

This offers designers a good deal of flexibility. Whether you’re interested in creating a modern aesthetic or something more classic in design, you will likely find the desired style. Be sure to ask about installation costs and warranty details which can vary quite a bit.

Of equal importance is product availability, especially considering the supply chain disruptions that have slowed the timeline of one too many projects of late.

High-End Porcelain Vanities (Approximate $3000 - $6000)

If you’re looking to upscale your main bathroom or on-suite, a porcelain vanity is a new and stylish way to do so. These streamlined vanities are made from the highest quality materials and incorporate the bowl into a continuous one-piece design that’s built to last. While they boast a minimalist design quality, they are anything but short on form and function.

Without visible seams, there are no unsightly gaps to trap water and dirt. This makes for an ultra-hygienic bathroom environment without the worry of mould and mildew.

For added customisation, Archant’s porcelain vanities offer abundant flexibility. They are available in two sizes with an 1100mm single bowl, or a larger 1800mm double bowl. They are built to order and can be made from any of our 22 colours of porcelain. This includes our collections of stone, cement, metal, solid, and mottled colours.

The standard drains are of a circular pop-up fashion in chrome, but other alternatives are also available, including white, black, and brass.  For added peace of mind, they all come with a 7-year warranty.

As these beautiful vanities are built to order, you’ll want to plan for a 4-week lead time which can differ based on custom alterations. The standard configuration does not contain tap holes and will be quoted as needed. Wall mounting brackets are included.

What’s the Best Vanity for Your Bathroom Project?

With the details and price ranges of these different types of vanities, you can see the importance of choosing well. For a DIY project, the budget-friendly options are indeed enticing. Bathrooms that don’t require the utmost durability or style can benefit from this range.

If you’re interested in higher quality craftsmanship, and an upgrade of style, the mid-range vanities may be a better option. Not only are they made with stronger materials, but they offer the ability to customise the various components to match the space you’re renovating.

Yet, for the ultimate in sophistication and high-end appeal, Archant’s porcelain vanities are in a league of their own. Granted, they come with a larger investment but offer timeless beauty and world-class materials that will stand the test of time.

These handcrafted vanities also give designers the greatest potential for design flexibility, as they are completely customisable and built to order.
