Exploring the Functional Décor Capability of Wovenpanel™ for Residential and Commercial Design

Exploring the Functional Décor Capability of Wovenpanel™ for Residential and Commercial Design

Designers and homeowners alike have long sought to incorporate beauty into their designs while still maintaining a practical edge. At Archant, we’ve been part of thousands of new builds, redesigns, and renovations around New Zealand. We are keenly aware of the challenges that come with compelling interior design. A space that looks great but is absent of convenient elements simply misses the mark.

Too often, people settle for “good enough”, and stop short of infusing the space with real personality. For this reason, we created unique products like Wovenpanel™. This architectural wire mesh is so much more than just a decorative surface. Think of it as an opportunity to add design sophistication, but with a functional purpose.

If all of this sounds good in theory, but you need some real-life examples to help visualise the capability of Wovenpanel™, you’ve come to the right place. Below, we are laying out a variety of stellar applications of our exclusive decorative mesh. From kitchens, living areas, residential, and commercial spaces, there’s an endless array of ways to use it. Let’s look at some recent projects that leverage Wovenpanel™ in inspiring fashion.

1) Stylish Railing and Chandelier

Two key elements in the living area were brought to life with the double wire flat weave and open fill of the Bexley Wovenpanel™ design. From the gorgeous stair rails to the oversized chandelier, a grand impact was made in an understated fashion.

The finished project is aided by the simplicity of a three-element design palette. From the stainless-steel architectural wire mesh screen, the black patina carbon steel, and the linear grain of the white oak, it boasts luxury while still providing functionality.

2) Beautiful and Translucent Space Dividers

Wovenpanel™ makes an outstanding space divider to separate an area without entirely closing off a wall. The open mesh works beautifully to create visual separation but does so while still allowing light to pass through. In this project, the stainless steel and brass finish of Clement brings a warm quality to an otherwise expansive kitchen.

Notice how the contrast of silver and gold woven wires introduces depth and a sense of motion to the space. The stainless steel and brass are joined together in perfect harmony. This rich combination brings out new dimensions and visual interest, resulting in a striking statement of elegance.

3) Add Functional Personality to Commercial Spaces

Wire mesh is not reserved for residential spaces as it’s transformed countless commercial projects as well. One such example is the lift in “The Studio”. Enclosed in two layers of Wovenpanel™, the Loxford sits atop a smaller weave brass pattern creating an interesting texture. This pairing proves quite effective at introducing a timeless quality to the building.

Another fantastic display of Wovenpanel™ is the upscale HOB Dalma Mall. Set in one of Abu Dhabi’s biggest shopping malls, the warm colour and intricate detail of Wovenpanel™ reinforces HOB’s magnificent scale. Contrasted by the rich tones of oak wood, brass-coloured metallics, and exquisite marble flooring, the wires are crimped in such a way as to reflect light from all angles.

While most would agree that hotels are not often known for their unique sense of style, Wovenpanel™ has been used many times to add design flair to otherwise generic spaces. The Clarion Hotel, located in Oslo, Norway leveraged Wovenpanel™ to bring a noteworthy touch of sophistication to their suites. The Crofton style of woven wire mesh with a dark oxide finish elevates the appeal of the desks and wardrobe cabinetry in each room.

4) Customise Cabinetry with the Texture of Wovenpanel™

Without texture and contrast, even the best-designed spaces can sometimes feel a bit flat. This is where Wovenpanel™ can reveal the character of a space.

We’ve seen this done in award-winning style in kitchens, like this one from Katie Scott of Sticks+Stones Design.

The warmth of the wire mesh breathes new life into the cabinetry, taking the space to the next level. The subtle use of texture introduces necessary contrast. A sense of depth, weight, and tone brings all the details together. When paired with the monochromatic colour palette, a harmonious quality makes for a calming place to meal prep.

Beyond the kitchen, architectural wire mesh also adds value to living areas. Take for example this warm and relaxing mountain retreat. Designed by Rob & Bonnie Chambers, they sought to match the freestanding fireplace with the overall aesthetic of the space. Coupled with the custom entertainment centre, a unified look prevails throughout.  Although rustic in nature, the shimmering copper accents reflect a contemporary feel with an inviting quality.

5) Unique Light Fixtures and More

Thanks in part to the pliable nature of Wovenpanel™, there are several unique and inventive ways to use wire mesh. From handcrafted light fixtures to cutting-edge planter boxes and beyond, the scope of what’s possible is limited only by one’s imagination.

The depth of wire mesh catches the light, reflecting it into the room, and building a look that’s both beautiful and one-of-a-kind. It’s this type of thoughtful application that has made Wovenpanel™ a sought-after element in designs both large and small.
